About

Welcome to this Behind-the-Scenes look at the post-production of “Pupsock & Wendell in THE GALLERY OF DOOM!” I’ve set up this blog to keep people posted on the progress of the film, and to help raise awareness of it. I’ll post on my progress and my process, and invite some of the other people making the movie it to talk about their work.

  • The script was written in May of 2006.
  • Principle photography took place in Orlando, FL in January 2007.
  • The film was shot over the course of 8 days, on a Panasonic AG-HVX200, in 720p.
  • Patrick Algermissen wrote and directed the film. Thomas Mumme produced it, Jeremy Schneider DP’d it, Ryan C. Wolfgang was the Production Designer, and Chris Santora was the 1st AD and Practical Effects Supervisor.
  • The film stars Pupsock Jackon, who was built and puppeteered by Jamie Donmoyer, and voiced by Kevin McGuire. The humans are played by Joey Monasterios and Jeff Gougen.
  • Post-production will be completed on January 20th, 2008.
  • Wendell is a 3D animated character, brought to life via the Open Source 3D animation package Blender. He was designed by Patrick Algermissen, modeled and rigged by Philip Yon, and animated by Algermissen.
  • Giacomo is a 2D animated character, animated in ToonBoom by Jimmy Compher.
  • I did the initial design work for Giacomo, and it was further refined by Sharon Jimenez. Jimmy took Sharon’s detailed drawings, and animated a simpler, more cartoony version in ToonBoom.
  • The film was edited by Adam Miller using Final Cut Pro.  Patrick Algermissen did the compositing and other effects in After Effects, on a PC.
  • The official site for the film is http://www.PoemFilms.com/doom/
  • The rough cut of the film had two public screenings, one at Heather Henson’s Orlando Puppet Festival on October 27th, 2007.  The second was at the 2007 Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase, on December 9th of that year.
  • The film chosen as one of the Best of Brouhaha.  Only 15 of the 46 films which screened received this honor.  As such, the final version of the film will had its World Premiere at the 2008 Florida Film Festival.
  • Subsequent screenings include the Newport Beach Film Festival, Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, West Hollywood International Film Festival, and the TriMedia Film Festival.
